Contest rules

General rules

The General Rules of the 2022 Regional Competitions are published on the ICPC website.

Organizational rules

Teams

Only teams accepted by the Regional Contest Director can take part in the contest.

All team members must attend all contest activities as specified in the schedule. The Coach is expected to be available during contest activities. Failure to attend any of the designated contest events can result possibly in the disqualification and forfeiture of any prizes.

Conduct of the Contest

At least six problems will be posed. As far as possible, problems will avoid dependence on detailed knowledge of a particular applications area or a particular contest language. The language of the contest is English. All written contest materials and all communication with the contest officials will be in English. Contestants may bring resource materials such as books, manuals, notes and program listings. Contestants may not bring any machine-readable versions of software or data. Contestants may neither bring their own computers, computer terminals and calculators nor any kind of electronic devices such as headphones, radio sets, cellular phones, smart gadgets, etc. Food and drinks are subject to local rules, but are generally allowed.

As an exception to the previous rule, a team may bring their own keyboard (standard USB keyboard without wireless connectivity, memory, etc.). Proctors should examine the keyboards before the contest.

Technical rules

Solutions to problems (source code) submitted for judging are called submissions. Each submission is judged as accepted or rejected and the team is notified of the result. Additional information about the reason for the rejection is described in the contest system. A contestant may submit a question about a task through the judge system. If the judges agree that there is an ambiguity or error in the task statement, a clarification will be issued to all contestants. Contestants are not to converse with anyone except members of their own team and personnel designated by the Regional Contest Director or local proctors. System support staff may advise contestants on system-related problems such as explaining system error messages. The contest will be held in a networked environment. The network may only be used to submit solutions, to ask questions, back up the solutions and to produce listings in ways designated by the organizers. Any other use of the network is strictly forbidden and shall result in immediate disqualification and removal from the contest area.

While the contest is scheduled to last five hours, the Regional Contest Director has the authority to alter the length of the contest in the event of unforeseen difficulties. Should the contest duration be altered, every attempt will be made to notify contestants in a timely and uniform manner.

A team may be disqualified by the Regional Contest Director for any activity that jeopardizes the contest, such as dislodging extension cords, unauthorized modification of contest materials (hardware of software), forbidden network activities or distracting behavior. The Regional Contest Director is solely responsible for ruling on unforeseen situations and interpreting these Rules.

Scoring of the Contest

A problem is solved when it is accepted by the judges. The judges are solely responsible for accepting or rejecting the submitted runs. In consultation with the judges, the Regional Contest Director determines the winners of the regional contest. The Regional Contest Director and judges have the authority to adjust for or adjudicate unforeseen events and conditions. Their decisions are final.

Team ranking details are described in the information page of the contest system.

Judge system

The judge system is available at putka-cerc.acm.si. The environment details are described in the information page of the contest system. The minor details may change up to the practice session.

Venue

All CERC 2022 activities will be held at the Faculty of Computer and Information Science, University of Ljubljana, Večna pot 113, 1000 Ljubljana.

Faculty building.
Introduction video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A6bN79AK4SY Directions from the bus station to the faculty.

The faculty is about 40 minutes walking distance from the city center, but you can also take buses 14 or 18. Specifically, the closest but stations to the faculty are:

You will need at least one Urbana card per group for using public transit (and you will have to communicate with the driver if you want to pay for more than one person).

More detailed instructions are available on the faculty website. See also the live map for immediate navigation and the Location tab for international travel.

Location

International travel

You can travel to Ljubljana by train, bus or plane. International trains and buses usually arrive at the main train and bus station, and you can then use the local public LPP bus network to get around the city (see the Venue tab for instruction on getting to the faculty). There are cheap direct daily trains to Budapest, Vienna, and Zagreb, as well as connections to Prague and Bratislava.

For travelling by plane, the most convenient airport is the Ljubljana Airport (airport code LJU), with regular direct flights to Warsaw. You can also consider flying to Trieste (TRS), or Zagreb (ZAG). For getting from the Ljubljana Airport to the city center, it's best to book a shuttle beforehand.

Slovenia

Lake bled and the alps.

Slovenia is bordered by Italy to the west, Austria to the north, Hungary to the northeast, Croatia to the south and southeast, and the Adriatic Sea to the southwest. Four major European geographic regions meet in Slovenia: the Alps, the Dinarides, the Pannonian Plain, and the Mediterranean Sea. The alpine region is home to the highest peak, Triglav, at 2864 m, as well as many glacial lakes, like Bohinj and Bled. The littoral region is famous for the Karst Plateau and its caves, such as the Postojna Cave and Škocijan Caves.

The total surface area is around 20.271 square kilometers, more than half of which is covered by forests. The population of Slovenia is around 2.1 million people, the official language is Slovenian and the official currency is euro.

More information is available at www.slovenia.info.

Ljubljana

Ljubljana old town

Ljubljana is the capital and largest city of Slovenia, with approximately 300.000 inhabitants. It is the historical, cultural, educational, economic, political and administrative centre of the country. The city is located roughly in the center of the country in the Ljubljana Basin and Ljubljana Marshes. The area has been populated since around 2000 BC, with pile dwellings and the oldest wooden wheel in the world found from the prehistoric times, and with remnants of the Roman settlement Emona still standing in the city centre today. The Castle of Ljubljana was constructed in the 11th century and the surrounding settlement grew into the capital of the Habsburg province of Carniola and then into the city as we know today.

The river Ljubljanica flows through the city centre at the base of Castle Hill. The symbol of the city is the Ljubljana Dragon, which is depicted on the top of the tower of Ljubljana Castle in the Ljubljana coat of arms, and on the Dragon Bridge. The central square in Ljubljana is Prešeren Square featuring a triple bridge over the Ljubljanica river. You'll find that the Ljubljana old towm is small and everything is in walking distance, such as the Congress square (featuring University headquarters) and the Republic square (featuring Slovenian parliament). Ljubljana Castle is also nearby, a short 10 minute climb at the elevation of 366 meters (as opposed to the base elevation of 295 meters), and offers great view of the city as well as free entry into the castle courtyard.
